I do find it rather hard to read a book that takes forever to get into, but my problem is that i'll just keep reading, just because i like to read and i'll finish weather i like it or not,

well...it depends on wat the intro is about. if its describing a setting then thats ok. but if it goes on and on about one particular thing then that would be stupid. but if that was way in ch. 6 then i'd just keep reading since i got that far in the first place

I'm not a fan of long introductions though, thus my love for series books! You don't have to spend the first 1/2 of the novel trying to figure out who in the world the characters are!

As a future author, I must explain to you why long intros are sometimes necessary, but not to chapter 6. Long intros first of all test the mettle of the reader. If they get past the intro they are ready for the excitement that follows. If they don't, they weren't worthy to read the rest. Or at least that's the way I see it. An intro to chapter six however is unneeded and therefore not worth reading.

Thats what I mean. I will read it if it goes to capter four or even chapter five. But if it is to chapter six and is still introdouceing the same charactor. I will close the book.

I seriously hate long introductions. I once read a book with a two chapter description of the boys uniform and backpack. They didn't even tell his name yet... :/

Yeah, same here...everyone skips past them although they are extremely important. I don't blame them.

I read a book like that once, it's what started my "it has to be exciteing by chapter six" rule

I, personally, don't write long intros. You don't need very long to introduce the story. And, fairykind, leaving out the names of the characters keeps certain people interested. I do that a lot, it makes it more interesting if people have to come up with their own name for a character... or so I think.

I find it interesting when the start with a prologue fom like the tensest part of the book, and then after a certain point the affect of dramatic irony takes place
